November 28th-December 2nd

Hello Families of Room 2!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Next week, Monday the 5th, is our field trip!  Make sure your student wears tennis shoes and brings a sack lunch.  A reminder email will be sent out later in the week!
  • Block schedule change just for this week: Monday will be a B day (library) and Wednesday will be an E day (Music).
  • The Winter Festival is this Saturday!
  • The Scholastic Book fair is this week.  Students may bring in money if they are interested in purchasing books!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week, we will continue our third writing unit: The Art of Information Writing.
  This week we will teach our classmates what we already know about the informational topics we have chosen.  We will then organize our topic into subtopics and begin writing about each subtopic.

Reading: This week we will continue our third reading unit: Reading to Learn.  We will focus on creating reading goals for ourselves as well as making sure we are reading nonfiction texts for significance, this means working to find something of interest each time we read!

Science:  This week we will begin Chapter 5: Ecosystems.  We will begin this chapter by learning how living and non-living things interact in an ecosystem.

Math:  This week we will begin Chapter 7: Multiplication and Division Patterns.  We will focus on the multiplication and division patterns of 3, 4, 0 and 1.  The test for this chapter will be next Friday, December 9th.

Tom the Turkey Breakout Box

We had blast last Tuesday!  We used critical thinking and collaboration to save Tom the Turkey and help him retrieve his pardon from the President!  Ask your student about our FUN day of learning last week!

November 14th-18th

Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • This week we will continue our helping hands campaign!  This week is cleaning products.  Any contributions you can make are greatly appreciated!
  • Last week, a permission slip for our first field trip came home with your child.  Please turn this in as soon as possible!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week, we will begin our third writing unit: Informational Books
!  We start this unit off by brainstorming topics we would like to become experts on.  We will then choose a topic and look for books, magazines, and any information we can find to help us begin our unit!

Reading: This week we will begin our third reading unit: Reading to Learn.  This week we will focus on previewing multiple nonfiction texts and taking a look at the text features that we notice.  We will also work on understanding the main idea of a nonfiction text.

Social Studies:  This week we finish chapter 7: Being an Active Citizen.  We will have our test this Tuesday.  Study guides were sent home last week.

Math:  This week we will begin Chapter 6: Multiplication and Division Patterns.  We will focus on the multiplication and division patterns of 2, 5, and 10.  The test for this chapter will be next Tuesday, the 22nd, right before we leave for Thanksgiving break.

Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Our Fairy Tale Frenzy is this Thursday at 9 a.m.!  Our class is so excited for you to see all the hard work they have done on their fairy tale!
  • We are off school this Monday and Tuesday.
  • This week we will continue our helping hands campaign!  This week is paper products.  Any contributions you can make are greatly appreciated!
  • Last week, a permission slip for our first field trip came home with your child.  Please turn this in as soon as possible!
  • Our Veterans assembly is this Friday, November 11th.  Students are asked to wear red, white, and blue.
  • Spelling tests are this week.
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week, we will finish our second writing unit, 
Adapting and Writing Fairy Tales. Students have been working so hard on publishing their fairy tales and they can't wait to share them at the Fairy Tale Frenzy!

Reading: This week we will finish our second unit: Character Studies.  We will create strategy groups that focus on the four strands of this unit: character traits, character responses/changes, determining themes, and the parts of a story.

Social Studies:  This week we begin chapter 7: Being an Active Citizen.  We will focus on the rights and responsibilities that we have as citizens of the United States.

Math:  This week we will finish Chapter 5: Understanding Division.  We will focus on the multiple strategies that we have learned when dividing.  As a class, we made a chart of these strategies and I will post of a picture of this chart on the blog to help you as your child studies for our test.  The test for this chapter will be on Friday.
