March 13th-17th

Hello Families of Room 2!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:
  • This Friday is a half day!
  • This week we will be presenting our Genius Hour projects!  If your child has anything at home that they are using for their presentation, please remind them to bring it to school this week!
  • This week we have spelling tests.
  • Tuesday, March 14-Thursday, March 16 will be the "Concord Cruise" in P.E.. Students are welcome to dress up for this event in beach type wear. We do not allow swimsuits and they still need tennis shoes.
  • The deadline to order the 2016-17 Concord ALL COLOR Yearbook is March 31.  To order now, CLICK HERE or return the yearbook order envelope you received with a check for $15 made out to Concord PTG.

Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  We will continue working on our fourth writing unit: Persuasive Speeches, Petitions, and Editorials. This week we will continue work in our cause groups. Students will be revising, editing, and publishing their cause group persuasive piece!

Reading: This week we will continue our newest reading unit: Mysteries!  We have recently finished a class read aloud mystery book, "A-Z Mysteries: The Absent Author" and we have begun a new mystery read aloud, "The Whodunit Detective Agency: The Diamond Mystery".  We will take this week to compare and contrast the differences between the two mystery books and discuss the reasons for those differences.

Math: This week we will begin Chapter 13: Perimeter and Area. We will work on finding the perimeter and area of rectangles as well as shapes that have more than 4 sides.  Rather than having a test for this chapter, students will be working on a perimeter and area project.  Be sure to ask your child about this!

Science/Social Studies: Due to many events happening during our social studies and science time over the next few weeks we will not be starting another social studies or science chapter until the end of the third quarter.  Instead, we will be taking this time of the day to review the reading and math Galileo tests in order to make sure we are remembering concepts and skills that we have previously learned!  Science will begin again the day we come back from Spring Break!

Have a great week!
